March in like a Lion for Art Education

March for our Schools Rally

March 1 1, 2019

6:00pm - 8:00pm

Annapolis, MD #MDisRED4ARTED

Right now, Maryland public schools are underfunded by $2.9 billion annually — an average of $2 million in every school across the state. It’s time to raise our voices and end the underfunding of our schools. Our kids can’t wait. Students, educators, and schools deserve better. So on March 11th we’re marching to make sure that every student in every neighborhood has a great public school and an equal opportunity for success.

As an important facet of the education community, MAEA needs to be there in solidarity and to represent our profession. Additional information can be found at https://marchforourschools.com. Transportation is available and being coordinated through the website. Please rsvp online. The march is after school, so there is no need to take leave or make sub plans. All are welcome, so feel free to bring the whole family. There is no need to find childcare. The March for Our Schools could be a great opportunity for our National Art Honor Society students to get involved in a community event. It could also be an opportunity for you to join forces with your school’s PTSA, booster groups, or other fine arts groups. Don’t forget to wear your red for ed!

As an extra incentive, MAEA will award a $100 gift card for art supplies to most creative rally poster. In order to participate, take a selfie at the rally with your awesome poster. Tag MAEA in the photo and use #MDisRED4ARTED when posting. This contest is open to both educators and students and will be judged on creativity, composition, and craftsmanship. The winner will be announced at the end of March.

Consider participating in one of these events. If you are unable to advocate in person, then consider sending a postcard to your legislators! NAEA also has some great advocacy resources on their website.
