MAEA is partnering with the Maryland School for the Blind on a 3 part project. The goal of this project-based partnership is to foster deeper engagement with our members and to strengthen their representation and familiarity with the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) committee through engagement with the Maryland School for the Blind. We seek to expand concepts of inclusivity and access in art education perceptions and practice.

Beliefs & Understandings guiding this project:

  • Art education is a human right. As such, educators need to engage in inclusive practices.

  • Service and connection restores and propels meaningful practice for educators.

  • Art Education as a field of study has historically privileged some groups over others, specifically related to race and ability. To disrupt and change practice we must seek to understand, engage and uplift the experiences of marginalized groups.

Partnership: The Maryland School for the Blind serves students with blindness or low-vision of all abilities from birth through 21 throughout their educational journey. Partnering with the Maryland School for the Blind, we are creating an opportunity where educators have the opportunity to rethink art-making experiences to be inclusive of those who have low vision or are blind.

This project based partnership will occur in 3 parts. Members are welcome to join in the ways that make the most sense for their learning and availability. Full Project Description
